The Milwaukee Repertory Theater, founded by Mary Widrig John in 1954, as the Fred Miller Theatre Company, is located on the east bank of the Milwaukee River in the Patty and Jay Baker Theater Complex at 108 E Wells St, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is home to an eleven member Resident Acting Company. The name change in the late '50s reflected the theater's growing emphasis on a broad selection of classics and contemporary plays and its commitment to nurturing a resident acting company. Conceived in the 1990s to increase public access to the waterway, the Milwaukee Riverwalk has grown to include art displays water taxi landings, and other venues such as cafés, and brewpubs. The Milwaukee Riverwalk extends from the Historic Third Ward district to Caesars Park near Brady Street. It also links to the Henry Aaron State Trail and Lakeshore State Park. There are three segments of the Milwaukee Riverwalk: the Beerline B, Eastown & Westown, and the 3rd & 5th Ward. The Beerline B runs from McKinley Avenue to Caesars Park, the Eastown & Westown section from Juneau Avenue to I-794, and the 3rd & 5th Ward section from I-794 to Lake Michigan. | ||

In 1889, Captain Frederick Pabst commissioned Milwaukee architect, George Bowman Ferry to design a substantial mansion in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style on a large piece of property that Pabst had acquired some years earlier. For seven months, Ferry labored over designs for the future Pabst Residence. On June 27, 1890, a building permit was issued for the construction of the home at 2000 Grand Avenue. Over the next two years, dozens upon dozens of craftsman created the structure that we see today. | ||
